DAYS after the Seven Network failed to topple the board of West Australian Newspapers, the publisher has moved to beef up its internet presence by teaming up with the News Ltd-controlled realestate.com.au to expand its online property classifieds.
This follows scathing attacks from Seven's chief executive, Kerry Stokes, who in his campaign to win board seats had lambasted the publisher for being "asleep on the keyboard" and having failed to devise a solid internet strategy for its monopoly newspaper. Under the deal, WAN's property search site is linked to West Australian and nationwide listings on realestate.com.au, giving buyers and renters a larger database of properties to search. The publisher will pay a small sum and realestate.com.au hopes to reach further into the state to attract more advertisers.
